New in Luxembourg · Start here
Moien. Welcome home.
That's the Luxembourgish hello — the first of four languages you'll hear before lunch. If you've just landed for the EU institutions, a bank, a fund or a tech job, you've moved to one of Europe's great revolving doors. People arrive, people leave, and finding your people can take years. We'd like to shorten that to a few weeks.
LABEL is the community built by and for African, Caribbean and Black people in Luxembourg — 2,000+ of us and counting. Nobody else here does what we do for arrivals. So consider this your landing page, in every sense.
The soft landing
Your first 30 days, sorted.
Four small moves. None of them takes more than an evening, and each one makes Luxembourg feel a little less like a posting and a little more like a place you live.
Join the WhatsApp community
The fastest way in. Daily conversation, recommendations, "does anyone know…" questions answered within the hour — and the first faces you'll recognise at an event.
Come to the next event
Networking sessions, workshops, cultural nights — plus two flagships a year: the BLOCCS summer festival and the LABEL Gala. Whatever's next on the calendar, come.
Find your people at a networking session
EU institutions, finance, tech, entrepreneurship — our rooms are full of people who made the same move you just did, and remember exactly what month one felt like.
Discover Black-owned businesses in the directory
The classic newcomer trinity: someone who can actually do your hair, food that tastes like somewhere, and wellness that gets you. 30+ businesses and growing.
The practical bits
A few things worth knowing early.
This isn't a government guide — your HR department and guichet.lu have the official version. This is the version a friend tells you over coffee.
First on the list
Register at your commune
Within days of arriving, you declare your address at your commune's town hall — it unlocks nearly everything else, from your social security to your parking permit. Bring your passport, your lease, and a little patience. Ask in the WhatsApp group which desk to queue for; someone has always been to your commune before you.
The language reality
Four languages, zero panic
Luxembourg runs on a friendly blur of languages. You'll be fine — most newcomers are.
The street, the shops, the administration. The most useful one to pick up.
The institutions, finance and tech — and most LABEL events. You can land on English alone.
Media, some paperwork, the German border twenty minutes away.
The heart language. Learn "Moien" and "Merci" and watch faces light up.
Where we gather
The community has its places
Our events move around the city — the Gala filled the Malt Factory in Clausen, BLOCCS takes over the Amphithéâtre du Kirchberg each summer, and friends like One People Luxembourg, Afro Beach Luxembourg and Radio ARA keep the calendar warm in between. Follow the events page and the WhatsApp group, and the city gets small fast.
An honest word
Your first event is the hardest — so come with us.
Walking into a room where you know nobody is the part everyone dreads and nobody admits. Say in the WhatsApp group that it's your first time, and you won't walk in alone.
See what's on nextThe coffee clause
Want a friendly face before the crowd?
Plenty of our members are happy to meet a newcomer for a coffee — no agenda, no pitch, just someone who's already made the move and is glad to share what they know. Mention it when you join, and we'll connect you.
